Last week I read one of abhorrent blogposts ever calling for Mr. Assange’s extra-judicial murder. I don’t normally comment on articles of this nature but at the time I was so dismayed I wrote:
I hope someone has reported you to your local law enforcement. As far as I know incitement to Murder is a criminal offence.
Since then other so-called journalists have written in more mainstream publications equally dangerous pieces, which in a civilised society should immediately lead to some form of prosecution or caution.
The fact the Prime Minister of Australia, despite this commentary, can only come out and talk to Assange’s “illegal” actions (though other lawyers disagree with her statements) and not support a citizen against such threats is disgraceful.
Gillard and McClelland’s response reminds one of the behaviour of Howard and Ruddock. So much for “progressive politics” from the Australian Labor Party.
I’ve signed the Open Letter asking her to change her rhetoric or behaviour at ABC.net.au and recommend you do too. No matter whether you believe the behaviour of Wikileaks is suitable or not.
